EMPLOYER VETER CONFERENCEE
MARCH 22-23, 2016
WHAT'S THE WORD ... Friday October 2, 2015-Honoring Our Veterans
Sometimes you have to sit back, smile, and ask yourself, "Wow, is this really happening?" Such was the case with this past Friday’s 4th Annual Business Women’s Conference. In fact, the joy and excitement were so thick, they could almost be cut into pieces and taken home as souvenirs. The further we go on our journey as a chamber of commerce, the sweeter the benefits are. Friday, October 2 was no exception as we gathered for yet another powerful Business Women’s Conference. With an emphasis on our Women in the Military, Military Wives and Military Supporters.
The morning began with a grand entrance from the DeSoto High School Junior ROTC. Followed by wonderful words of wisdom from our very own evangelist, Ruthie Davis of Denver Colorado, referencing Deborah from the book of Judges, as a woman veteran. Also a huge shout out to Carmen Garcia for doing an excellent job as the event's MC. There were very interesting topics tabled such as breaking the mold, shifting the mind set of emotional intelligence, by our opening speaker, Marisela Jimenez, owner of Wealthy Strategies; our key speaker, Loren A. Robinson, with Denver Water of Denver Colorado, spoke on the importance of hiring veterans. Later, awards were given to show appreciation for the Women in the Military, Military Wives and Military Supporters. Corporate awards went to Lockheed Martin, Huntington Ingalls and Dallas Area Rapid Transit DART). You had to have been there to feel the many sentiments that filled the room while the awards were being presented. Lastly, closing remarks came from amazing, Mrs. Fatina Brave, with Ingalls Shipbuilding and division of Huntington Ingalls Industries of Pascagoula Mississippi. The bar is being raised and good things are happening in the Southwest. Until next time, THAT'S THE WORD.
