How to use Hreflang tag for multi-language websites | SEO Tutorial in Tamil | #21

In this video, I’m going to share with you about Hreflang tag optimization in SEO, the lang attribute specifies which language is used to write the content of a web page. The hreflang tag sends a signal to Google as to the versions of your web pages that are most relevant for certain search queries.

What is Hreflang tag?
The hreflang tag is an HTML meta tag that specifies the language and (optionally) the relevant geographic region for a page. Hreflang tells search engines where to find the content in other languages.

How Does It Impact SEO?
Hreflang has two main uses when it comes to SEO. The first thing hreflang will do for your SEO is help reduce the impact of duplicate content. Hreflang tells Google that there’s a relationship between the two pages and helps their bots interpret the relationship between the two, instead of seeing two copies of the same content.

The second is that it helps you to make sure the right content is being served to the right users. If you’ve got a site in multiple languages, or that targets multiple geographies, you’ve likely put a lot of time, thought and effort into tailoring your content and marketing strategy to these audiences. Without an hreflang tag, Google could wind up displaying an English page for a user who only speaks Spanish, or serve American content to an Australian user.

How to Use Hreflang for SEO
If your website targets users all around the world (meaning that you are involved in the International aspect of SEO), you may want to translate it into different languages to cater for different countries or regions. While this is certainly good for your users, it may not be so for search engines.

Simply publishing translated versions of your content on different URLs won’t help Google understand the relationship between URLs and how your site is set up. This is suboptimal and can lead to your pages not ranking as well as they could.

Improve SEO with hreflang tags for Shopify multilingual stores from Hreflang Manager App

Welcome to Hreflang Manager, where you can improve your International SEO.

Your business grows and you open one more Shopify store to sell to a new market. Or, you are already a big name brand that has a group of stores all over the world.

In any case, it’s time for you to take care of International SEO.
If you are the SEO expert, you definitely know the essence of hreflangs tags in international stores!

Without hreflangs, users see several stores in search results that are targeted to different markets. This may confuse customers or give you non-relevant traffic and orders. But with hreflang tags, users see the only one, most relevant store:

1. Without hreflang tags, Google doesn’t know that your stores are meant for different regions and so may give penalties for duplicated content.

With hreflang tags, your customer sees the relevant Shopify store, and search engines don’t consider it as a duplicate.

For example, you opened one more Shopify store with a warehouse to sell in a new country in a local currency. You have no idea, why this store got just a few sessions. Why do customers still purchase from an old store, ignoring the new one that was created just for them?

When you add hreflang tags, you tell search engines that traffic from this country should be handed over to the new store. Your stores are not competitors, they are just localized versions of each other.

2. Easy setup with each new store.
When the store is created, set it up in 3 simple steps and search engines will show the store to a relevant market right away.

3. Additional SEO benefits for product handles in a regional language.
Works even for English, for example, sneakers & trainers. You will be able to speak the same language with your clients.

Shopify Hreflang Manager app helps with all this and even more!

4. Products will be automatically linked between stores by SKU or barcode. Products can also be synced by handles like collections, pages, blogs and blog articles.

5. If your product list is being regularly updated, new products will be automatically synchronized between stores. And if you use the store with several languages, the Shopify Hreflang Manager app can handle this.

Even if one of your stores targets several countries with several different domains, like having one warehouse for Australia and New Zealand, our app can set up their SEO properly.
